Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent health providers have made the decision to stand-down the system critical incident

on .

In the run-up to the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, the decision was taken to declare a critical incident across the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care System, with all providers and partners struggling to maintain routine services due to increasing demand and staffing issues due to COVID-19.

Since the Bank Holiday weekend, we have seen continued improvement across the system with good discharge numbers in hospitals and more movement and capacity across the care system. As we are in an improved position, we have now stood down the critical incident.

Although we have seen improvements, pressures on the NHS and care system do remain and we continue to encourage the public to think NHS 111 first when they think they have an urgent need for services, especially 111 online, and we would like to thank the public as we saw that happening over the weekend.

I want to thank everyone for working so hard across our health and care system. There has been an amazing effort with many giving up their Easter weekend to ensure those most in need were not left unsupported, and the hard work continues.

Many thanks
